Vennagram #5: Myspace vs. Friendster

Remember the time a few decades ago where you having trouble keeping up with your friends at school about their lives. Well, social networking change all that. there were many social networking sites created like classmate.com or hi5... What? You don't remember them. Some of those used to be the most visited sites before Facebook or Twitter were invented. But as time goes by, less and less visitors came and eventually declined in popularity or worst, they had to be shut down. Which brings to our two notorious victims, Myspace and Friendster.

Myspace is a general social networking with a ``with a strong music emphasis`` and was once the most visited social networking site in the world until in was overtaken by Facebook.

Friendster was also a general social networking that was no longer popular in the western world but is popular among the users in Southeast Asia.

Now let`s look at its similarities:

Both are influential	It created a gaming platform that launched the successes of gaming developers and also started the trend of creating unique URLs for companies and artists. [1]	It was considered one of the original and even the "granddaddy" of social networks. [2]
Both were very popular	In June 2012, Myspace had 25 million unique U.S. visitors. [1]	June 2011, the number of registered users has reached over 115 million. [2]
Both suffered a decline	It was overtaken other popular sites like Facebook and YouTube. [1]	The site has been experiencing decline in traffic in America since 2009. [2]
Both are still available today and both have a redesign of their site	One of the features is the streaming music player where users can queue songs, create mixes or playlists, or start a radio station from a song much like Pandora Radio. [1]	After the design of June 2011, the site is relaunch as a social gaming site. [2]
