Once every year, a special holiday tradition is relived to lift up the holiday spirit. A man with a white beard wearing a red coat, who gives presents to the good children and coal to bad ones. Yes, is the traditional Santa Claus popularize by the media throughout the years. But it also makes me curious of the real Santa Claus, St. Nicolas of Myra, the one of the inspirations for this icon. The Bishop who also gave things to the poor and was also love by many.
Well to dedicate this early Christmas topic, I'll compare these two people.
Saint Nicolas (or Nikolaos), Greek Bishop of Myra (which is part of modern-day Turkey), lived during the 4th-century who was known for helping the poor and giving gifts secretly to them.
Santa Claus, on the other hand, is a Christmas figure that has said to bring gifts on Christmas Eve to the homes of the good children. He was said to derived from the Dutch figure of Sinterklaas and to historical St. Nicolas of Myra.
